Non-attorneys will be able to practice limited family law in Colorado under new program

Published Thu, 20 Feb 2025 19:13:30 GMT

The Colorado Supreme Court has approved a new paraprofessional program that will allow some non-attorneys to practice limited family law, the state Judicial Department announced Monday. The justices agreed to create a licensed legal paraprofessional program that will allow licensed non-attorneys to represent clients in some divorce and child custody cases. The move makes Colorado one of just a handful states with such programs.Proponents say the paraprofessional program will offer litigants a more affordable option than traditional representation by an attorney and will decrease the number of people in the family law court system who appear without any representation. Opponents worry the paraprofessionals will be ill-equipped to handle legal matters.Under the newly-approved plan, candidates will be required to pass a written exam and meet certain educational requirements in order to become licensed legal paraprofessionals. Candidates must have completed at least 1,500 hours of “...

When you’re in my position, you get a lot of calls and we’ve got calls on those players. We anticipate them being here and I can’t wait to see them in Sean’s offense with these coaches. Jerry (23) years old and the way he finished the season — last five games (was impressive).“Courtland played 15 games, had close to 900 yards, so to see these two receivers with Tim Patrick, with the others we’ve added, we’re excited to see where it’s going.”Payton cited what he considers to be a relatively weak dra...

State Farm, California's largest vehicle insurer, is raising rates for its 3.7 million policyholders now that many if not most of them are on the road again.Vehicle insurance premiums declined during the pandemic after I and others pointed out to the state Department of Insurance that rates no longer reflected the reality of cars sitting in driveways. Now Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara is approving rate increases in light of the pandemic easing and people returning to offices. Most recently he's given the green light for State Farm to raise premiums by a total $264 million, which translates to about $70 per policyholder.Insurers say the higher rates reflect the greater risk of most people being back on streets and freeways. But consumer advocates say this is price gouging, and that in many cases, higher premiums are unwarranted."These massive premiums increases have been approved even though most auto insurance companies have failed to fully repay their customers for windfall over...
